Betrayal by the name of Love

A tale of betrayal.
A most shocking portrayal.
An unlikely adversary.
Her preparation, cursory.
Her pools of knowledge, deep.
Sense of judgment? Asleep.
Peacekeepers gave the dove.
And you, English, gave us the word love.
A dastardly act.
Devoid of skill or tact.
An ocean so vast,
and a failing beacon at the mast.
Like a clown that wasn’t creepy,
or a sloth that wasn’t sleepy.
An assignment so wrong,
I had to bring it up in song.
The need to converge.
The undeniable urge to surge.
The passion and the heat.
All misappropriated, you cheat.
The decadence and guilt.
Myriad lives that were built.
The loss of breath,
And your knell of death.
Being brought to your knees.
For a lifetime to cease.
Minds that hunt freely.
And four disjointed letters, really?
